Travel to University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB)

How to find UPB Campus

UPB is located in the west end of Bucharest, in Borough 6. The nearest underground Metro stations are Politehnica, on the red M3 line, with an exit into the campus and Grozavesti, on the yellow M1 line, within a 15 minute walk to the campus, westbound. A map of the metro network is available hereand Grozavesti on the yellow M1 line.

  • Cash is not accepted on Bucharest public transport. You can use your Debit/Credit card contactless or smartphone pay systems, or you can buy an e-wallet card for overground transportation or a magnetic card for the metro. Flying to Bucharest

The Capital city of Romania, Bucharest is located in the south of the country.

The Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport  at Otopeni (OTP) lies 16.5 km north of the city centre of Bucharest, being the main international airport of the country. Bucharest is well connected via both direct and connecting flights to and from all main European cities.

Train to Bucharest

The main Railway station is Bucharest North (Gara de Nord). There are direct train services to Budapest and Vienna operated by CFR Calatori (the National rail passenger service operator). Online travel fares can be purchased here for domestic journeys  and here for internationals journeys.

Henri Coanda Airport (OTP) transfers to UPB

The UPB Campus can be reached taking a bus to the city centre or a train to Gara de Nord (Bucharest North Railway station) and then changing for metro underground or bus/trolleybus connections to the campus, see below.

Bus to City Centre

Bucharest is directly connected to the airport by the STB 24h bus service 783 to Piata Unirii (city centre via Piata Victoriei, Piata Romana, Piata 21 Decembrie 1989 – Universitate), every 10-30 min.

Train to Gara de Nord

Gara de Nord (Bucharest North Railway Station) is connected to the airport with 24h direct train services operated by CFR Calatori and Transferoviar Calatori (TFC),  every 40 min.

Commuting between City/Gara de Nord and Conference Venue

Underground Metro

The UPB Campus can be reached from the city by the Metrorex metropolitan underground services (Metro):

  • Red line M3 to Preciziei from station Piata Unirii 1, alighting at station Politehnica and then walking for 5-10 min through the campus. Note that station Politehnica has a gate in the campus.
  • Yellow line M1 to Republica/Pantelimon from station Gara de Nord 1, alighting at station Grozavesti then walking westbound for 15 min.

 

Bus and Trolleybus

The UPB Campus can be reached by STB services:

  • Bus 201 to Semanatoarea from the stop Piata 21 Decembrie 1989 – Universitate (University Circus), alighting at the stop Complex Regie and then walking  southbound for 10 min.
  • Bus 336 to Complex Apusului from the stop  Piata 21 Decembrie 1989 – Universitate  (University Circus), alighting at the stop Universitatea Politehnica and then walking northbound for 10-15 min through the campus.
  • Trolleybus 61 to Master SA from the stop Piata 21 Decembrie 1989 – Universitate (University Circus), alighting at the stop Universitatea Politehnica and then walking to northbound for 10-15 min through the campus.
  • Trolleybus 62 to Grup Scolar Auto from Gara de Nord (Bucharest North Railway Station) alighting at the stop Universitatea Politehnica and then walking northbound for 10-15 min through the campus.
  • Bus 105 to Valea Oltului from Gara de Nord (Bucharest North Railway Station) alighting at the stop Podul Grozavesti and then walking westbound for 15 min.

Commuting  between  Conference Venue and Palace of Parliament

Bus

The House of Parliament can be reached from the UPB Campus, by STB bus service 136 to Pod Izvor from bus stop Universitatea Politehnica, reachable 15 min on foot from the conference venue.

Underground Metro

The House of Parliament can be reached from the UPB Campus, by yellow line M1 to Republica/Pantelimon  from station Grozavesti, alighting at station Izvor and then walking 15 min south.

 

On foot

The Palace of Parliament is within a  40-60 min walk to south east from the UPB campus along Splaiul Independentei.

Traveling fares

Bus, Trolleybus & Tram

STB traveling fares can be found and purchased at ticket vending booths or online, using the app 24pay with a credit card attached.

Train

Train travel fares to and from the airport can be purchased at the ticket vending booth in the airport, on the train from the conductor, as well as online using the official app CFR Călători.

Metro

Metro travel fares in Bucharest can be purchased at the ticket vending booths in all metro stations. Metro fares can be also paid at the entrance gate using any debit/credit card. More information is available on the website  Metrorex.

Traveling by car

Car parking at UPB is available 24 hours for a small entrance daily fare. The address  to use for satellite navigation to the UPB Campus  is Splaiul Independentei 313 . Entry is via Splaiul Independentei or Bd. Iuliu Maniu.
